In-house low-cost water table prototype to practically analyse the modelling compressible flow in a fluid engineering course

The present work studies the hydro-gasdynamic analogy between a shock wave, occurring in supersonic internal or external compressible flows, and hydraulic jump, sort of normal open-channel flows. It consists an extensive theoretical framework followed by practical analysis, aim which was to experimentally trigger both oblique, while using low-cost designed lab prototype. assembly development, called ‘water table’, arises from necessity economical alternatives expensive wind tunnels experimental study fluid dynamics. With this objective mind, canal based on Laval nozzle constructed where water flow could accelerate subcritical critical supercritical regime then return through jump. In addition, multiple design were evaluated considering environmental, economic, functional aesthetics factors. A implementation criterion process. measurements have revealed that geometry wedges as obstacles cause obliquity are most significant influential elements formation jump set-up. Regarding variables, experiments demonstrate effect upstream downstream heights data collection. This experience is step forward supporting students understanding its principles providing in-house set-up promotes active learning, motivation interest mechanics.
